A busy life can make us forget about God and His love for us. The demands of work and family life can make us feel tired, weary and bored. We can all lose our joy and become grumpy towards God and our neighbour.

In last Sunday's Gospel, Peter, James and John had an ‘out of the ordinary’ and ‘out of this world’ experience, when they encountered Jesus on the mountain top. They had a transforming experience that changed them, and they did not want to leave.

Lent is a time when we are encouraged to spend time alone with Jesus; on the mountain top, in the desert, or even in the quiet rooms of our home. In these places we find less distractions; away from the internet, phones, to do lists, and a lot of other business. In these places of quiet Jesus talks to us and reminds us that we are loved by Him.

Lent is also a time when we are encouraged to encounter Jesus in the Sacraments, such as Mass and in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In quiet places, we can also hear Jesus speaking to us through our Bible and in spiritual reading.

All people who love each other need time together. Married couples, family and friends all need time together. Jesus too needs our time, so be generous in spending time with Him this Lent. When we know how much Jesus loves us, He will strengthen us to love others in our family and work life.
